Ok, let’s start with some fun.


If you’re stuck for time, here’s Muybridge and the Invention of Cinema. VERY quickly...

Continuing the music theme, Muybridge’s photographs animated to music by Philip Glass from “The Photographer” (1982), which was inspired by Muybridge:

Zoetrope, zoopraxiscopes... it’s easy to confuse the odd names. But here’s what we’re really talking about:

And because Muybridge had such a pioneering influence on animation and the early Disney cartoons, it’s no surprise to see even more recent cartoons such as Toy Story pay hommage to Muybridge’s devices:

This New Scientist video discussed an exhibtion featuring works inspired by Muybridge, and advocates the idea that Muybridge was more artist than scientist:
